We are the main providers of dinghy sailing activities for The Scout Association in the County. Recognised by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) as a training establishment, we offer both introductory sessions for scouts and RYA courses for scouts and members of the public. covering a wide range of abilities. For scouts and explorers wanting to do an RYA course, we recommend attending an introductory session first, if possible, in order to get the most benefit.
Sailing is from our yard, the David Woodhead Centre, at Nova Scotia Place and within the historic Bristol Floating Harbour and Cumberland Basin. We use a variety of dinghies including Laser Bahia’s, RS Feva’s, RS Zests, and Toppers. All our activities are run by volunteers, sessions are supported by our own safety boats and staffed by our RYA Instructors and leaders, all with appropriate scout permits. We also offer our sailors further sailing experience in our Club on Tuesday evenings, Clinic for sailing skills (on request) and periodically at Chew Valley Lake Sailing Club.
We aim to provide opportunities for Scouts and others to sail and drive power boats in as safe a manner as possible, by complying with the Scout Association, the RYA and local harbour rules.

The Section also runs courses for adults interested in sailing and volunteering for the section. The courses could take you from a novice assisting on shore to an experienced sailor leading on the water activities.
