The Start sailing course provides a basic understanding of dinghy handling techniques and background knowledge.
No previous experience is necessary.
We use Laser Bahias or RS Zests. Bahias: The maximum student: instructor ratio is 3: 1. Generally 2 or 3 students per boat with the instructor on board. Zests: Maximum student: instructor ratio is 6:1 each student has their own boat
An ‘RYA Start Sailing’ book and RYA logbook are included in the course price as is a Level 1 certificate for successful students.
It is recommended that students consolidate the course by doing a Level 2 course.

The Basic skills course builds on the basic sailing knowledge of Level 1 and introduces new techniques including capsize recovery.
Pre requisite: Students are expected to have sailed before or have a Level 1 certificate which they should bring with their Logbook.
There is a maximum of 3 students to 1 instructor.
After the course students should be able to rig, capsize, right and sail a boat as helm or crew in a gentle breeze.
Successful students are awarded with a Level 2 certificate
It is recommended that students consolidate the course by doing Level 3.

The Better sailing course builds on the Level 2 experience and introduces aspects of the sailing required for the advanced course of Seamanship.
Pre requisite: Students are expected to be competent sailors in a gentle breeze or have a Level 2 certificate which they should bring with their logbook.
On completion students should be competent to sail safely in moderate winds without instruction.
Successful students are awarded with a Level 3 certificate
The ‘RYA Advanced Sailing’ book is available (£10) and is recommended

ASCSS provides the advanced course of Seamanship which can be used as a pre-requisite for those training to become an Assistant Instructor.
The course is not essential for general sailing however it is fun and improves personal sailing skills.
Pre requisite: Students are expected to be competent sailors or have a Level 3 certificate which they should bring with their logbook.

Pre requisites: This course is only available to team members.
Trainees will be competent sailors with an Advanced Sailing Certificate eg, Seamanship.
Trainees are instructed on the RYA teaching methods and plans
Course duration is 16 hours, usually 1 day of group training followed by on-the-job training
On successful completion of the course, the candidate will be awarded with an Assistant instructor certificate and will be counted as an Instructor for beginner courses on our site in Bristol. An Assistant Instructor is site specific.

Course duration is 1 day and on successful completion, the candidate will be awarded with a Race Coach Level 1 Certificate . The course is an endorsement required for the teaching of the Start Racing Course.
